Grown in the Indian subcontinent, Organic Black Gram Whole (Vigna Mungo) also originated in India and is consumed in wide quantities in the country and in Pakistan. Part of the Fabaceae family, it contains high levels of protein, calcium and potassium. They are normally harvested from March to April and are rounded lentils that are black in colour. Also called mungo bean and Urad Dal, they are used on a large scale in North Indian cuisine. They are also used in Ayurvedic medicine.
