Organic Star Anise

Organic Star Anise (Illicium verum) is like a stronger version of anise seeds. Star Anise has a distinct, spicy licorice flavour. It is brown in color and has an aroma similar to that of a fennel seed. Its intense flavour compliments soups, stews and braising liquids and it pairs particularly well with soy sauce and Chinese five spice. It is used to add an authentic far east flavour to meals and the pod is discarded after cooking. The fruit is anti-bacterial, carminative, diuretic and stomachic. It is considered useful in flatulence and spasmodic.
